The Arctic Research Group has carefully assessed the condition of a number of tents that have been acquired over the years the group has been operating. Five of these tents have been found to be in reasonably good condition, though not now suited for expedition use, and the decision has been taken that they are surplus to requirements.

Throughout the existence of the Arctic Research Group, we have benefitted from generosity by many people, and it is in the spirit of passing this on to others that we are pleased to have donated them to an organisation that will benefit from them. Selling the tents would raise only a very small amount of money and whilst we remain in urgent need of funds for the 2025 expedition, these tents are not going to make a significant contribution.
In mid December, Two Force 10 tents, that can sleep five people and three Force 10 tents that can sleep four people, have been donated to the Duke's Barn Outdoor Activity Centre. The tents will be used by groups of children who attend mainstream primary school and including children with special needs, to enjoy the experience of being 'under canvas' in the countryside.
Arctic Research Group member Dan Clarke, who has experience of working with young people with special needs, commented "These tents will bring wonderful opportunities for the children to be able to go camping and experience living for a short time extremely close to nature. The team work needed to erect, live in and then pack away a tent, will help the children to build new skills and memories of enjoyment and challenge in the countryside. Who knows it may even inspire them to go on future expeditions of their own?".
